Speaking to media persons in this regard, S Prakash, gen secy of NESO alleged that the incident occurred due to the lack of security measures in the university adding that the warden and Registrar of the university should be replaced as they are not capable of handling such situation.

Narrating the incident, he stated that a scuffle broke out between two groups of students of the university including some Manipuris inside the hostel of the university on August 9 last around 11 am due to some reasons. Again, another fight erupted between the two groups in which 11 Manipuri students were left badly injured inside the hostel on August 10.

He further said that on the same day following the incident, altogether 86 Manipuri students studying in the university left the hostel in fear and took shelter near a Manipuri village called Protika Bamotiya.

On hearing about the incident, two guardians from Manipur namely Oken Khuraisam and Athokpam Ranjit along with KT Vaiphei, IGP Intelligence and S Prakash, gen secy of NESO went to the university and met with Ajay Pathak, VC of ICFAI Tripura and inquired about the incident.

If the authorities of the university fail to control such incident in future then NESO in collaboration with other organisations would take up necessary actions against the concerned authorities of the university, he further cautioned.

Meanwhile, Prof Ajay Pathak, Vice Chancellor of ICFAI Tripura has deeply regretted the incident occurred at the campus of the university resulting in fights between the two groups of students that left injuries caused to some Manipuri students and assured the guardians and the Dept of Technical and Higher Education, Manipur that no such recurrence would take place in future.

‘’We have requested students from Manipur who had shifted outside the campus to come back to the hostel and resume their classes at the earliest. Parents of the students have also been requested to come and stay in the university’s guest house for a few days so as to counsel their wards to prevent such incidents in future,’’ the VC said.
