WAD hails Street Vendor Bill

IMPHAL, Sept 7: The Women Action for Development (WAD) has lauded the passing of the Street Vendor Bill (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Bill, 2012 on the floor of Lok Sabha on Friday, 2013 and said it expects that the Bill will be passed at the Upper House of Raiya Sabha in due course of time without much arguments and obligations and to constitute this Bill into an “undeniable Act”, in a statement today.
“Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending Bill, 2012 is to regulate street vending activities and to protect the rights of urban street vendors, including against harassment by police and municipal authorities. The said bill also provides for security and protection of livelihood to all street vendors having a vending certificate to be issued by the Town Vending Committee. Both the State and the Centre will have to work together to make the Act a success,”the statement said.
“The markets of the state have earn its popularity of being the unique and only vendors run by the women folks and it needs to be preserved. WAD appreciates the current motion and development of the Bill and appeal the State government to be the first state to enact Street Vendor Act when it is passed by the both Houses of the Parliament”, it said.
