Jiribam sub division demand helicopter service

JIRIBAM, August 12: The people of Jiribam sub division undergoes an ordeal in finding a way to reach Imphal during the rainy seasons. One has to give some efforts to reach Imphal either on the national highway 37 or through Silchar airport or on the way through train via Silchar to Dimapur, than Dimapur to Imphal by bus thereby consuming a lot of time and at the same time experienced a lot of physical and mental tension.
On the backdrop of such a situation, the president of the All Jiribam United Clubs Association (AJUCA), L Shantikumar Singh told and mentioning that a helicopter service between Jiribam and Imphal is necessary so as to reduce the traveling burden.
Shantikumar said that the Jiribam District Demand Committee is demanding the State government to convert the sub division to a revenue district. This stance was in view of the impending problem owing to isolated geographical location and also land communication gap on the highway coupled with the deplorable condition of the Imphal-Jiri road.
He further continued that one has to experience an ordeal along highway 37 for taking a signature of the deputy commissioner. He added that beside this circumstance, one must stay in a hotel or must find a relative in Imphal to put up. This involves monetary involvement and the poor people of the sub division who do not have either are left in a problematic situation.
In the mean time, it may be mentioned that the government was once considering for arranging helicopter services between Imphal-Tamenglong-Jiribam-Tamenglong-Imphal thrice in a week and also daily services between Imphal-Moreh in view of the deplorable road conditions. He added that such planning was not materialized till date.
It was further mentioned that there was three proposals from the Pawan Hans service which rendered helicopter transport in the north east to the North Eastern Council to allocate budgetary support of Rs. 840 crores for helicopter services in Manipur and other NE states.
