Truck driver held captive on mistaken identity

IMPHAL, Apr 16: The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Worker Union have demanded the state government to take immediate action against an alleged kidnapping case of a truck driver by five unknown person whom they suspect to be security forces.
Speaking to media persons, this afternoon at the union’s office, Ningthoujam Indrajit, 42, son of Ningthemjao, of Lamphel Tera Ningol Khong, a truck driver by profession said that he was pickup by five unknown persons who came on a red colour Bolero jeep from Mahindra workshop at Mantripukhri where he temporarily stays on April 10 at around 11:30 pm.
Later, he was taken to an empty area at Malom and there he was beaten severely by the five unknown persons thinking that he was some person named Yaima alias Tayaima of Khuyathong. The five were asking where he had hidden those 15 guns, which he has no idea.
He was later taken to a place was held captive at a place which he suspects to be a security post. He was asked the same question again and again and was beaten over and over again. He said he was given only two slice of bread per day by his captors.
He was released by his captors on April 14 night at an empty place at Lamphelpat Tera. After which he was hospitalized at JNIMS, he said.
The five unknown persons include a non-Manipuri, a tribal and three Meiteis, he said.
Secretary of the union, Kulamani said that they suspect the involvement of security forces in the alleged kidnapping and demanded the state government to take immediate action to find out the culprits.
A memorandum will be submitted to the CM, Deputy CM and DGP in regard to the incident, he said threatens to launch various forms of agitation if the government fails to fulfil their demand.
