Foundation stone for Girls’ college laid at Chandonpokpi

IMPHAL, May 25: The foundation stone for construction of a girls only private college christened Pine Mount Girls College at Chandanpokpi village under the Chandel district was laid at a function with Th. Chitaranjan, DC Chandel as the Chief Guest.
Speaking at the function, Romeo Yuhlung, GB Secretary said that parents felt apprehension about sending their wards outside Manipur while noting that existence of good educational institutions in the state would lead to decrease in the number of students studying outside Manipur to some extent.
He continued that efforts would be made for all the required infrastructures to be equipped and the college is set to start the session in June 2014 for which the college building would be constructed on the war footing. He gratefully acknowledged the support from various quarters to the effort to establish the college.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Chitaranjan said that it was praiseworthy to make plans to establish a private college for the girls at Chandonpokpi while asserting that education for girls is necessary for the advancement of the society and girl students outdo boy students. He also said that he would extend all possible help while stating that the decision to establish a private college for girls made by intellectuals of various villages in the vicinity of Chandolpokpi and village chiefs would bear fruit. Village heads, village pastors, Church leaders participated in the function wherein traditional songs and dances were presented.
