Workshop on ‘Khongjom Parva’

IMPHAL, February 20: The Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata are jointly organizing a joint program “Khongjom Parva – Khongul Leeba (workshop, seminar and festival)” from February 20 to March 2, 2013.

The inauguration function was held today at the Artiste’s Workshop cum Dormitory at Palace Compound here.

During the occasion, Makhon Mani Mongsaba, advisor of the workshop said Khongjom Parva is related to Khongjom laan (Khongjom battle) and Moirang Parva to Moirang Kangleirol.

The later is liked by the youths as the former only deals with the battle.

He said that Kongjom Parva is very difficult and is on the verge of extinction.

It cannot be easily sung by a student unless he is specially trained. From the 13 students participating in the workshop, the most talented ones will be selected to sing Khongjom Parva on Khongjom Day, he added.
