Guwahati to host “Save Loktak” musical campaign

IMPHAL, February 20: Popular singer and music composer Ranbir Thouna’s Campaign with the theme of "Save Loktak, Our Life" will be completing five years in April this year.
First launched in the year 2009, his musical campaign is being undertaken under the banner of Tamna Sang-Gai, a recording studio owned by him.
This year's Tamna Sanggai campaign will will be taken to certain places in the North Eastern region of the country which are deemed as appropriate venues for the concert.
Speaking at a press conference at the auditorium of the Babina Diagnostic Centre, Porompat today, the multi faceted artiste who is a singer, composer and director of Manipuri music said that Tamna Sanggai will take his musical campaign to Guwahati on March 17; Silchar on March 19, Moreh on March 23 and Imphal on April 9 under the theme ‘Save Loktak, Our Life’.
The Assam tour will mark the second phase of his campaign outside Manipur after a similar campaign was held in Bangalore two years back.
Today's conference was attended by Convenor Save Loktak, Our Life M Joy (IAS), Dr Th Dhabali, Environmentalist Prof Dr H Nandiram and Private Secretary to Olympic Bronze Medallist MC Marry Kom, Jimmy Leivon.
As part of the program a website ‘www.tamnasanggai.com’ was also launched today by Dr Th Dhabali.
Dr Dhabali said that many people living around Loktak Lake is depending on the lake for their livelihood.
He added that the condition of the largest freshwater lake of the entire Northeastern region has been deteriorating for some years now and mentioned that the rivers flowing in to the lake are also polluted.
He said the rivers in Manipur have become like drainage systems because of pollution.
He said before taking up any action to save Loktak, rendering awareness is more necessary. He concluded saying that Ranbir Thouna’s campaign to Save Loktak must be supported by one and all.
Ranbir Thouan’s campaign to Save Loktak as of now is supported by many business firms and organizations like Classic Hotel, Siroy Groups of Hotel, Streax Hynoh, Arun Enterprises, Home Solutions, Zoya Fitness, Shija Hospitals, Kangla Food Products, Marry Kom Regional Boxing Foundation, Hero Foundation, Airtel, Aircel and Narayan Advertising Agency.
A T shirt with an imprinted logo of the campaign and a booklet was also launched today in connection with the campaign.
Speaking at the press conference, Environmentalist Dr H Nandiram said that Loktak is the world's largest wetland having the biggest biodiversity.
He said that Loktak as Lake has to be 6 mt deep but now it is 1.5 mt deep at average leaving to a state of wetland rather than a lake. He added that Loktak lake is so important that it is known and researched in other parts of advanced countries. He stated that artificial wetland are created in advanced countries and we still failed to conserve God gifted one.
A website of Tamna Sanggai, www.tamnasanggai.com which highlights the history, objective and activity of the organization was also launched during the press conference.
