Undergraduate teachers announce hunger strike in demand of promotion

IMPHAL, October 4: Undergraduate/primary teachers who have been working under the department of Education (s) will stage a hunger strike on October 16 if their demands for the promotion were not fulfilled on or before October 15, according to the General secretary, Demand Committee for the Promotion/Upgradation of Undergraduate/Primary Teachers to Graduate Post (PUUPTGP), Thokpam Khogendro during a press conference at Manipur Press Club today.
Speaking to media persons, he stated that the Department of Education (s) has deprived the legitimate rights for promotion to graduate teachers over the last 30 years.
Several hundred of graduate teachers were directly recruited by violating the existing rules and regulations in the year 1996 and 2007, he said. He continued that teachers play a significant role in the nation building, however their demands is still to materialize despite of fulfilling the demands made by the Directorate of Education (s).
He also warned that committee will accelerate the movement for a strong protest demanding the rights for promotion to graduate teacher posts.
