Seven days book fair being organized at Shaumurou

IMPHAL, Oct 24: The 3rd Seven Day Book Fair organized by the Mayai Lambi Integrated Development Organization (MLIDO) in collaboration with the National Book Trust was inaugurated yesterday at Shamurou by Karam Shyam Singh, MLA of Langthabal as chief guest, said a press release of the MLIDO.

The function was presided over by Dr M Nara Singh, former minister of Art & Culture and W Rajen Singh, director of DIPR attended as the guest of honour.

Dr Th Khomdon Singh, librarian of Manipur University delivered a speech on the importance of books and library in the present context of the society, it said.

The dignitaries on the dais had also observed that organizing such book fairs regularly should be frequented; before assuring that they would also extend all possible assistance for the successful organizing of book fairs in the future.

During the book fair, other education related activities were also arranged, it said.

A quiz competition was also conducted in the field of culture and literature participated by students of Classes IX and X. Distinguished quiz master of Manipur, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh conducted the competition successfully, it said.

Altogether five teams constituting of two students from a school each participated in the competition, it said.

Yengkhom Momocha & Punshiba Huirem of Brilliant Public School, Shamurou won the first position; Somokanta Huidrom and Md Yasir Arafat of Little Master English School, Shamurou won the 2nd position while Moirangthem Sheila and Haripriya Leishangthem of Brilliant Public School, Shamurou took the 3rd position.

Book firms including two from outside Manipur are also participating in the book fair, it said.
