Missing JCB driver’s bandh disrupts normalcy

IMPHAL, October 23: A 12-hour bandh called in connection with the suspicious disappearance of a JCB driver disrupted normalcy in Khurai area including its commercial centres and movement of traffic along Imphal-Ukhrul road, Imphal-Saikul road and Imphal-Tinsid road today. The bandh which was promulgated from 5 am to 5 pm was called by the JAC formed against the missing of the driver, Meisnam Devaraj alias Tom Singh of Khurai Sajor Leikai.
No untoward incidents were reported during the bandh though passers-by came out in strong numbers into the street and blocked traffic.
The JAC has given the government a deadline of three days to trace the missing person and warned that if it failed to do so severe form of agitation will be taken up in association with civil society organizations.
Speaking to media persons, the Pradhan of Khurai block gram panchayat, Yumnam ongbi Chitra of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai recounted that Devraj went missing on October 14 along with the excavator after some unknown persons hired the vehicle for an MGNREGS job.
She further said that the JAC had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi to find the missing and the latter have given strong assurance to solve the case at the earliest.
