CM preaches Gandhi’s non-violence, says only non-violence, and not violence can bring about solutions

IMPHAL, October 2: Violence will never bring any solution, only non-violence could bring solutions to problems, said Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh during an observation of the National Cleanliness Day in commemoration of the 144th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at the Gandhi Memorial Hall today, organized by the state Home Department.

All organizations both from the hills and valley should come to the table to chalk out their issues rather than making their demands through violence, he continued.

As in other parts of the country and elsewhere, the day was also observed at many places in the state, with social service being the highlight of the day. The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee also observed the day at the Manipur Congress Bhawan.

The Chief Minister said the celebration and essence of Gandhi Jayanti is not restricted within India and is also observed by the United Nations as the International Day of Non-Violence that aims to disseminate Gandhi's philosophies, principles and belief in non-violence.

He further said that the observation is to relive Mahatma Gandhi’s life and his contribution towards India’s Independence.

The CM led his council of ministers, MLAs, government officials and others in paying floral tribute to a bust of the leader who is also known as the Father of the Nation.

The Dy CM addressing the function said that even till today, Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and principle of non-violence are followed and in recognition of his contribution towards humanity, people still observed the day.

He appealed to the people to follow in Mahatama Gandhi’s footsteps of  non-violence, tranquillity and harmony.

After the conclusion of both functions at the GM Hall and the Congress Bhawan, the Dy Chief Minister Gaikhangam accompanied by Social Welfare minister Ak Mirabai who is also the only woman in the state council of ministers volunteered in cleaning up areas of main women markets of Imphal.

On the other hand, woman vendors apprised the Dy CM for development of the Ima Keithel.

Later addressing media persons at the Manipur Congress Bhawan, the Dy CM expressed that he will certainly discuss the demands of the women vendors with the state Chief Minister and try to provide all possible demands.

He continued that the contribution of the women vendors is very remarkable.

The Detailed Project Report for the construction of a new multi storey building for woman vendors at the Tombisana High School, Old Assembly Road has already been completed and the facilities to be provided in the new building will be the same as those at the three Ima Keithels and constructions will soon be taken up, he said.
