Six candidates file nomination for TNL president post

UKHRUL, Sept 10: Altogether six candidates for the post of Tangkhul Naga Long president and three others for the post of vice-president have filed their nomination papers for the forthcoming general election to be held on September 18 next.
The six candidates for the presidential post are Artex A. Shimray from Ukhrul (Hunphun Village, North Zone), Jonathan Kashung of Shingkap Village, South Zone, Weapon V Zimik of Sirarakhong village representing from West Zone, David A Shimray of Chingai village, North, Ramthing Hungyo of Bungpa Kn from East Zone, and Ashang Shaiza of Ukhrul village representing from Nongdam village.
SD Reisang of Bungpa Khullen, P Peimi of Ronee village and J Thanchipem of Phalee village are contesting for the post of vice-president.
LM Abel of Chahong village is the lone candidate for the post of the TNL speaker post and will be declared uncontested as per the norms of the election procedure of the TNL, while the post of deputy speaker will see a fight between GS Pemting of Lunghar village and Lungshim Athari of Sorde village who have filed their candidatures.
In the Zingtun Longphang (West Council) vacancy post of speaker, VS Whig stands alone candidate and there is no candidate in the vacant post of vice- president for the Aze Longphang (South Council), according to a source from the TNL Election Commission Office.
The source also disclosed that the public platform to manifest the speeches of the candidates will be staged on September 17, a day before the polling date on September 18.
