Villagers maintain road as Govt remains unresponsive

IMPHAL, August 29: With the state government failing to repair the deplorable road condition of the only road connecting the three villages namely Thamlai, Heinoukhong and Waba Ching in Chandel district, the villagers have carried out the repairing works of the road.
According to the villagers they had made repeated request to the concerned Minister, local MLA and also the ADC Member of the area but there was no response.
Thamlai village secretary Makunga Angphen said that the road is the lifeline for the three villages which connects with Heirok village in Thoubal district. He said that the road stretch of around 15 kilometres is in a deplorable condition which is also very much dangerous to travel during the rainy season.
The Thamlai tributary running behind the road has also added to the problem causing landslides of around 30 metres length due to overflowing of water from it.
He maintained that the landslide had completely blocked the road and they approached the concerned Minister, local MLA and ADC Member but there was no response to the call of the villagers.
The villagers had to use the footpath between the fields of Heiton Loukon for two to three months. In doing so, there were frequent quarrels with the owners of the paddy fields, he said.
He further added that the villagers of the three villages contributed money and engaged an excavator machine so as to avoid further worsening of the road.
The villagers felled trees from the village, adding that fixing the trees at the landslide location and necessary earth filling were also done. Other works for necessary improvement at some locations were also executed.
Meanwhile, secretary of Heinoukhong village, DM Kodar said that the government is only interested in broadening the national highways and other development works in the agriculture area, adding that the govt of Manipur did not show any interest to improve roads and developmental works at the far flung villages of Manipur.
Moreover, he continued, there is no response from the government of Manipur to construct a bridge over Thamlai River. Today, one T Khusim, wife of T Medar was facing difficulty on her Villagers maintain road as Govt remains unresponsive way to RIMS hospital for her delivery case.
DM Kodar appealed to the Government of Manipur for an urgent intervention to repaire the bridge on Sajikhong of the Enganglok road.
DM Kodar further complained that the three villages including ts surrounding villages such as Parington, Thabi Keithel, Konaitong, Meryland, Phoilen, Tolen ect were not getting electricity for the last many years.
