Thangmeiband Congress committee appoints new office bearers

IMPHAL, August 28: A general body meeting of the Thangmeiband Tribal Development Committee was held today at the residence of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, Jyotin Waikhom at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai.
The program was attended by MLA of Tamei, Kikhonbou Newmai as the chief guest.
Chairman of Tamenglong ADC, Soihem Haomei, vice chairman of Imphal Municipal Council, Thambaljao Phaomei, ex-minister Jangamlung Panmei and councilor of ward number 1, S Binarani were the guests of honour.
The list of new office bearers for the TTDC for the term of 2013-2016 was also announced.
The chairmanship was conferred to Mukenpao Panmei of Tarung village, vice chairmen were given to Rajen Kamei and Ajin Gangmei, general secretary was given to Thaingamlung Gangmei. Another 9 executive members were also selected.
The chief guest, K Newmai said that the society is fragmented by different opinions among the communities and sometimes unwanted incidents occur. “There is a scarcity of love, we have to forgive and spread love to the society, this is the will of God,” he added that unification must be brought among the communities for peaceful co-existence and wholesome development and for that Thangmeiband can become a model.
He further mentioned that at the constituency, the wants of the tribal population are addressed but emphasized that the tribals though get benefits should strive for self reliance as to be with par with others.
President of the function, Jyotin Waikhom said that the TTDC was initiated in 2005 by himself to give equal benefits to the tribals of the constituency. He said that there are 13 tribal villages and a total of 3000 voters from the 30,000 voters of Thangmeiband constituency.
Adding that the tribal section plays a huge role in decision making of the constituency, he said that projects have been taken up with the help of the Congress government and mostly on goodwill. There has been only an opposition led representation from Thangmeiband and as such has brought down the amount of development works. “We must bring about equal development and not engage in petty politics, unification is a priority to forward the constituency in all aspects,”he said.
The newly elected representatives also gave their views in furtherance of taking up progressive works and creating a congenial atmosphere within the communities.
