UCM foundation day reiterates stance on territorial integrity

IMPHAL, July 3: The United Committee, Manipur today observed its 13th Foundation day at its office today. It may be mentioned that the committee was formed on July 3, 2001 against the inclusion of the “without territorial limit” in the ceasefire pact signed between the GoI and the NSCN (IM).

Speaking at the function, UCM president, Yumnam Nabachandra said, the committee will continue to face all attempts to break the territorial integrity of Manipur in the future also.

Citing the state Dy CM’s statement that the state has already urged the centre to do the needful on the formation of a committed Highway Protection Force in the state, he said that the state could have accommodated the highway protection force from the state force until the centre approves its establishment.

Criminal activities along the highways could be stopped if the government establish police checkpoints at a regular interval along the whole highway stretch, he said.

Due to the failure of the government to look into the issues of the state, the people of the state both in the hills and the valley districts are unable to live in peace, he claimed.

There is a need for all sections of the society to united face the issues of the state today to usher an era of development and peace in the state, he said.

All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation, president KT Rahman in his speech as one of the guests of honour, said, AMUCO and UCM have today unified for the betterment of the state and whenever issues on territorial integrity of the state arise, the two bodies will join hands against all adversaries, he added.

All problems in the state have been brought about after the merger of Manipur into the Indian union, he said.

Retd Judge, C Upendra in his speech as the chief guest of the observation said the political parties in the state have failed to carry out their duties towards the welfare of the state and its people and now it is upto the civil organizations to do the needful.
