NSA celebrates 7th foundation day

IMPHAL, July 24: The 7th foundation day of the National Sports Academy was today celebrated at the indoor hall of the academy at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh attended as the chief guest while Parliamentary Secretary of Youth Affairs & Sports M Prithviraj Singh presided over the function, said a press statement of the Chief Minister’s secretariat.
Addressing the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that the Govt will extend all possible help to the academy before urging all to join hands to fulfill the goals of the academy which had been established in the interest of the nation.
He further said that the National Sports Academy will encourage young players to be disciplined and bring honour to the state and the nation, the statement said.
The Chief Minister further expressed that players with the quality of sportsmanship would be successful in their respective fields if they are devoting themselves in the interest of nation and further continued to add that people of the other fields also must have the spirit of sacrifice for the nation, it said.
The president of the function Parliamentary Secretary M Prithviraj Singh said that Manipur is recognised as a sports power house in the country while adding that this recognition and culture of sports should be maintained.
He further appealed to all sports associations in the state of Manipur to end the culture of factions, it said.
It is notable to mention here that the National Sports Academy was established on July 24, 2007 under Prime Minister’s special package along with funding of ministry of DONER at the Hostel No. 1 of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal in six selected disciplines of Archery, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Weightlifting so as to produce world class sportspersons. The Academy is providing general education of both science and arts streams stared from class VI to XII under CBSE, New Delhi, and the first badge of the Academy is now reading in class XII, it further added.
The participants, among others, in the 7th foundation day were Dr RK Nimai Singh, Commissioner of YAS, N Ashok Kumar Singh Director, YAS, the Principal, the staffs and students of the Academy, it said.
