29th all India Haj conference begins at New Delhi

IMPHAL, June 27: The 29th All India Conference for Haj 2013 commenced today at around 9:30 am at the Hall No 5 of Bigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

The meeting was presided by Ministry of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and it was attended by Haj committee chairmen and executive officers/secretaries of all the states and other representatives led by Haj committee of India chairman.

Manipur state Haj committee chairman Md Amin Shah who is also the Parliamentary Secretary (MOBC & SC, Science & Technology) and executive officer of the state Haj committee Syed Wahidur Rahaman represented Manipur at the conference.

Among the issues discussed in the conference, the issue of Saudi Arabia’s notification to all the countries of the all world to cut down the number of Haj pilgrims, who are coming to Mecca, by 20 percent from the actual number which was decided earlier.

The reason behind Saudi Arabia’s notification was because of a construction work being undertaken at the worship place at Haran Sharif in Mecca.

Due to the construction works at the worship place, the number of Haj pilgrims of Saudi Arabia itself will be cut down by 50 percent from the actual number which was decided earlier.

The office bearers of the Haj committee of India after a deliberate discussion on the matter with the representatives of the states have come to the conclusion that the cut of 20 percent will be from the “Private Tourist Operator” (PTO).

For this current year, the actual number of Haj pilgrims is 1,25,000 and the number of Haj pilgrims of “Private Tourist Operator” (PTO) is 45,000 with a total of 1,70,000.

However, following Saudi Arabia’s notification 20 percent will be deducted from the total number and the deduction will be made from the PTO side i.e. 34 thousand pilgrims leaving only 11,000 from the PTO’s side.

The number of Haj pilgrims selected from the state is 370 as decided earlier and there will be no changes in the number.
