Workshop on RTE at CCPur

LAMKA, May 14: The Kuki Students Organization, KSO in collaboration with the NLFon Monday held a workshop on the Right to Education (RTE) at KIC Hall, District Headquarter Tuaibuang, Lamka.
The workshop was attended by representatives of various civil society groups including the Gangte Student's Organization (GSO); Kuki Women for Human Rights (KWHR); Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR); Churachandpur District private school association (CDPSA) among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Pradeep of the MACR said that RTE is not about compulsory education to the student/ children under 14 years alone but it also implies that a compulsory commission is made by officials from the top to the bottom.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Langkhanpau Guiter, MDC and Chairman of the CCpur ADC lauded the contribution of the private schools that he said are responsible for the development of students in term of language development and discipline.
He also dwelt on the problem of proxy teachers in Manipur which has almost become synonymous with education in the state and added "Many people say that the proxy teacher are to be arrested, but I say that they be awarded and made regular teachers and the so called real teachers, who are not doing their duty be put into compulsory retirement".
He further added that he had candidly opined this dispensation with the higher authorities.
