Kharam seeks special attention from govt

IMPHAL, May 14: All Manipur Manpower Upliftment Centre (AMMUC) continued its month long May Day observation with a function held under the motto “Economic Self Reliance” at Kharam Pallen, Senapati, today.
Speaking on the occasion, R Umsophum, chairman of the Village Authority, Kharam Pallen said the village needs special attention from the government. A 3km long road diversion from the Imphal-Jiribam road which acts as the lifeline of the village is in such a bad condition that it is useless in the rainy season, he said.
He said that the Kharam Pallen government school has 150 students but with only three regular teachers. Acknowledging the need of teachers in the school, the villages heads had appointed four temporary teachers from their own villages and provided them with a monthly remuneration of Rs 3000 each.
He continued, the infrastructure of the school is in a very bad condition and said, before the elections, the local MLA had promised everything in regards to the welfare of the villages.
But ever since winning the election, the people have been unable to even get an appointment for a meeting.
R Umsosam, president of the Social Health & Environment Development Society (SHEDS) said to build up a strong state, the society need to be developed first. He stressed his belief that labourers are indispensable in the process of development in any society.
It is through their efforts that the economy and civilization of the country flourish, he said. Speaking at the function, S Bimolchandra, president of the All Manipur Manpower Upliftment Centre (AMMUC) said the month long observation is aimed at bringing unity among the farmers and workers of the state without considering their caste or creed.
On the issue of non-locals in the state, he said the non-locals have today seized every available options of self-employment from the locals today and as such the unemployed youths of the state need to realize the fact and understand that they too can start earning through other ways of employment and earn a sufficient amount for their livelihood.
