IMPHAL, May 8: The Women Action for Development, in a press statement has expressed deep concern regarding the murder of a woman identified as Neikholat Kilong (25), daughter of Seichon Kilong of Moreh Ward No. 9, Hlangkichoi Veng and the wife of Bijoy a laborer of BRTF.
The statement said that in the first half of May 2013, the state has witnessed four cases of crime against women reportedly the suspicious suicide of an 18 year old girl from Thoubal District, the killing of Neena Devi (48) of Bishnupur District and the life attempt on Mala Lisham, Chairperson, of the Child Welfare Committee Thoubal District.
“It is very unfortunate to see the rapid increase of crime against women without justice being rendered. Immediate intervention is urgently required from the Home Department for a stringent actions with regard to the crimes”, the statement said.
The statement further appealed to the state government for implementing a fast track court urgently in order to bring justice to women caught under the impact of various forms of violence in the state.
Meanwhile, a press release form Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies ( FRIENDS) said that it condemns the killing of Neikhohat Kilong (22), near Molnophai Village near Kondong Lairembi, Moreh on May 7. It also demanded punishment of the culprit according to law.
