Meira paibi numit observed reiterating call for fight against violence

IMPHAL, May 28: Commemorating the role of Manipuri women in the movement against violation of women’s rights, Meira Paibi Numit Observation Committee observed the 15th Meira Paibi Numit along with a public discussion at Tharo Devi Lampak, Khurai Salanthong here today.
Thounaojam Iboyaima, President of Irabot Foundation Manipur who spoke at the function said women have been ceaselessly moving forward to safeguard the land though political parties do not listen to them as they are busy criticizing one another.
During the occasion, Prof Kshetri Bimola Devi, Political Science Department Manipur University said since 1980, the state has been witness to many crimes like torture, murder, abduction etc and that meira paibis have taken a stand against them.
However, despite the unstable condition of the state personalities like MC Mary Kom and Kunjarani Devi has introduced the state not only to the rest of India but all over the world. There are also persons who do the same in the field of art and culture, science and technology etc, she added.
She also stressed that we have to acknowledge the issues that we should fight against and find out the reason for violence against women and the ways to deal it.
Longjam Memchoubi, President Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur also attended the occasion.
Our Jiribam Correspondent adds: Around 200 meira paibis staged a meira rally at around 5.30 pm from Kalimai Mandir to Jiri Bazaar, Babupara at Jiribam in connection with the meira paibi numit observance today.
Taking the opportunity of the occasion, Kh Pushpa Devi, General Secretary All Jiribam Meira Paibi urged to repeal Arm Forces Special Powers Act and make the state a peaceful and harmonious one.
