Dry state takes up drive against alcohol ahead of Presidential visit


IMPHAL, April 3: Shops selling IMFL and  country made liquor were busted during a cleans – up drive conducted by Imphal west district police commandos in the heart of Imphal in the run-up to the visit of President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on April 15. Around 80 alcohol buyers and six sellers were arrested and handed over to city police station. The special drive which started from 4.30 p.m. was led by Dr. N. Ibomcha Singh, Deputy Superintendent of police and assisted by Inspector John, officer-in-charge of Commandos of the district.

A large number of CDO personnel raided shops selling IMFL and  country made liquor at Paona Bazaar, Pologround Maning, Rupmahal Tank, Bora Galli, MG avenue. The raids resulted in the seizure of 574 whisky and rum bottles, 310 litres of country made liquor  and 220 can and beer bottles including those hauled up from 'Chandu shop' at MG avenue.

DSP/CDO Dr. N. Ibomcha Singh,said that the drive will continue and added that CDO personnel have started road opening petrol (ROP) duty on foot as part of its security detail in the Imphal city.
