Cabinet appoints new MPSC Chairperson, Member


IMPHAL, March 22: A cabinet meeting held today at the Chief Minister’s secretariat has decided to set up six police outposts to provide security for the extending Jiribam-Imphal railhead. Five posts will be located within Tamenglong district and another within Chandel.

Speaking to media persons at his office chambers at Babupara today, Education Minister and government spokesperson, M Okendro said that the outposts will be put up at Keimai, Khongsang, Awang Khul, Joujangtek and Thangal of Tamenglong and another  at Machi of Chandel district will be built.

The cabinet also discussed for the appointment of a new Chairperson and Members of the Manipur Public Service Commission Oken said, adding that the government is set to absorb new MCS, MPS cadres annually and the vacancy left behind by MPCS member P Bhorot, since February 29 will be filled up at the earliest.

The cabinet has decided to appoint DV Singh, retired IAS officer as the Chairperson and Principal secretary LP Golmei as a member. The minister added that with the two posts appointed,the works of the MPSC will not be hindered.

The cabinet also approved to appoint RK (o) Thounaojam Brinda to the selected MPS post.

Oken mentioned that there is no sufficient evidence as charged against her by the Home Department. It may be mentioned that Brinda is the daughter-in-law of RK Meghen, Chairman of the proscribed UNLF and who is presently in NIA custody. She was not given the MPS appointment earlier as the Home Department brought up charges against her. The matter was challenged further at the Supreme Court.

Sources further supplemented that the cabinet meet also discussed for payment of family pension to the wife of one late H. Inaobi Singh, Ex Rifleman of the 2nd MR. The matter was tabled after the High Court directed the government  to award pension to the wife of the deceased, Tondonbi Devi after she filed a petition to the court.

Other matters which were discussed during today’s cabinet meeting included the extension of engagement on contract basis in the Tribal Affairs and Hill department of Manipur and also creation of regular post along with regularization of a contract employee of Museum keeper of the Tribal Research Institute, Manipur.


Untrained Elementary teachers must get training by 2015

Minister Okendro observed that according to NCERT norms, all elementary school teachers who are not trained will not be allowed to continue in their profession. They have to be trained by 2015 and the state government has already taken up measures to construct a DEIT centre at Imphal East and further strengthen its existing centres.

He added that there are a total of 4917 teachers who need to be trained. Since the present DEIT centre can only accommodate 500 persons, he added that residential schools will also be constructed from next month onwards.
