Two arrested along with powerful IEDs

IMPHAL, February 25: A combined team of Imphal East and West commandos arrested two underground cadres along with two powerful explosive device (IED) fitted compactly in a big iron rod today at around 8.30 am near the Uripok Cheirap Court, Imphal West. Later in the evening, the IEDs were displayed before the media in a press conference held at the Imphal West commando complex today evening.
Dr S Ibomcha, Deputy SP Commando Imphal west said that based on specific and reliable information, a combined team of Imphal West and East Commandos led by him and P John, Officer in Charge of Imphal West commando west arrested two active workers of the Naga National Council (NNC), namely Luingam Haoram (37) son of Ngaithang Horam of Hoomi, Ukhrul district and Elangbam Gyaneshwor singh (49) son of E Mangoljao of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and staying at a rented house at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai. Following their disclosure, the combined team recovered two IED fitted in a iron rod from the rented house of Gyaneshwor.
The two IED bombs fitted inside a iron rod along with two electric detonators and two bed switches, 2 charged demolition M112, four circuits, one battery cell, six electronic detonators, one remote control set and two mobile handsets were recovered by the combined police commando team.
S Ibomcha further said added that Luingam Horam revealed that he is a staff officer of the NNC and worked under Self style Yirei Mitanpyu of Tangkhul region of NNC Federal Government of Nagalang (FGN) for the past five years. He further said that under the instruction of Yirei and Adino Phizo, President of NNC contacted a Prepak cadre called Tamocha staying in Burma and on 24 February 2013, the later sent one person on a motorcycle Yamaha FZ and handed over the IEDs in a dark red colour air bag near the Assam Rifles post at Chingmeirong. Horam and Gyaneshwor later concealed the explosive items at the rented house at Laipham Khunou in the same evening.
S Ibomcha further added that Gyaneshwor has revealed that he is serving as an usher in the Guwahati High Court at Imphal and working under Luingam Horam for the past one year. Both the arrested persons disclose that the NNC in collusion with the PREPAK were planning to explode the two recovered IEDs at the Laipham Khunou area in one or two days time in the surrounding ares.
