Loktak Fishermen headed for Conservation Seminar

IMPHAL, February 25: A press release from the All Loktak Lake Area Fishermen’s Union, Manipur has said that a nine-member delegation from Manipur led by its secretary Oinam Rajen, will be attending the National Ramsar sites Stakeholders Meet and Wetland Conservation Seminar at Alappuzha, Kerala - the home to Vembanad Kol wetlands, one of the most beautiful Ramsar sites in India- on March 3rd to 5.
It said the meeting is hosted by Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) and sponsored by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, (Government of India), which is the national nodal government organization for the Ramsar Convention.
The Manipur delegation will use this platform to bring national and international attention to the historical, cultural, economic and ecological value of the Loktak and related wetlands of the Manipur Valley. Critical issues, problems, challenges and obstacles concerning the survival of the "Mirror of Manipur" will also be shared by the delegation, it said.
