Three cops hurt in mob attack

IMPHAL, Nov 9 : In a sudden uproar at Lilong Bazar this afternoon, a mob attacked a police team, stoning them and left three policemen injured.
The incident happened at Lilong Bazar along NH 2 near the local mosque.
A team of Imphal East commandos was chasing a suspected person and they fired a few round of shots in the air, conveyed a source.
Taking advantage of a large group who were coming out from the Mosque after offering prayer, the suspected person disappeared.
But the crowd turned their wrath on the police team and attacked them, pelting a volley of stones. This left three commando personnel injured.
On learning about the outrage, a police team from Lilong PSrushed to the spot. But their mini-truck was vandalised by the mob injuring another police personnel in the process.
The uproar was brought under control after arrival of additional reinforcement.
Later, a car (Alto) reportedly driven by the fled away suspect was recovered from the area, added the source.
