Mobile phones distributed to ASHAs


IMPHAL, November 8: Health and Family Welfare Minister, Phungzathang Tonsing distributed mobile phones to ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activist), ASHA facilitators, staff Nurses and ANMs at a simple function held today here at Hotel Imphal organized by State Health Society, Manipur.

The function was also attended by Ramnganing Muivah, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Devesh Deval, state mission director, State Health Society, Manipur, Dr Pradeep Haldar, DC, Child Health, MoHFW, GoI, Padam Khana, senior consultant, PHP, NHSRC, GoI.        

Speaking at the function, Minister Phungzathang said that ASHA is one of the most important sectors in National Rural Health Mission, and as reported by public, ASHA is very helpful. This policy was introduced only 2-3 years back.

Earlier they were provided with cycle, radio, torch, thermometer, raincoat, umbrella etc. but today they are provided with mobile phones to help them more accessible in times of needs by the people, he further said.

Manipur had recently bagged a prize for best performance in health sector among similar small states in the country and we should be proud of it. And this is happening because we are working sincerely and need to maintain this with dedication, the Minister added.
