Huge consignment of ganja disposed off

IMPHAL, September 9: Personnel of Litan Police Station in Ukhrul District has disposed off 1078 kg of ganja worth around Rs 32,000 in the local market by setting it on fire today around 1 pm.
Reports said the seized ganja was set afire at a place in Mongkot Chetu village under Litan Police Station in the presence of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM)/Ukhrul, chief of the village, local leaders and representatives of students’ unions.
The huge amount of ganja was seized from a person who was arrested by a column of 16 Assam Rifles during frisking conducted at Mahadev in Ukhrul District on March 4, 2013.
Later, the seized ganja along with the arrested person was handed over to Litan Police Station and an FIR No 4 (3) 2013 LTN PS U/S 20(B)(I) under ND & PS Act was registered in connection with the seizure.
The disposal of the seized ganja was conducted following a disposal order issued by the court, the reports stated.
