KANGPOKPI, August 21: Taking into account various hardships faced by college/school going students along the National Highway 2 and several complaints lodged by the parents and guardians of the students, the Kuki Students’ Organization Sadar Hills today convened a meeting with the Union of Northern Transport Society (UNTS) at Apex Christian English High School, Motbung.
The meeting was attended by 10 members of the Union of Northern Transport Society including its president and secretary with 3 members on the part of the student body including its joint secretary, information and publicity secretary and finance secretary.
Mention may be made that the Union of Northern Transport Society include Motbung to Sapormeina Transport Society, Kangpokpi Transport Society and Senapati Transport Society.
“For the past many months, passenger buses plying along National Highway 2 have kept away from transporting college/school going students thereby spelling tremendous hardships upon the students”, said the student body’s finance secretary Minlen Khongsai while noting that several complaints have also been lodged on the matter by the parents/guardians of the students to the student body .
On the other hand, the transport society averred that sometime there comes a condition when it is very much difficult to load more passengers when the capacity of the vehicle is totally full.
“Unfortunately students along the NH-2 wait for the bus at the same timing”, they continued while adding that if the bus/vehicle keeps loading the students above its capacity, they (the students) prefer to accommodate themselves on the roof of the bus which is too dangerous for them as well as to the respective vehicle.
After discussing the problems, the student body and the transport society agreed on several resolutions to be imposed strictly upon the student community and the vehicles operators.
As per the resolutions adopted in the meeting, the Kuki Students’ Organization Sadar Hills has informed all the students and their parents/guardians that there will be 50 per cent fare concession for the student community in all the vehicles plying along National Highway 2 without any time frame.
The student body instructed that, all students must wear their respective college/school uniforms and possess their respective Identity Card while on their way to and from School adding that the concessional rate will not be applicable to those students without uniform or Identity Card.
In the meantime, students are to pay 50 per cent of the bus fare without fail.
Any students found defying the instruction will be severely dealt with, warned the student body.
The student body also forbade the students to board the bus on the upper roof and appealed to all the vehicles operators and parents/guardian as well as the concerned college/school authority to ensure that their respective wards adhere to the instruction of the student body.
The student body also instructed that every student should wait for the bus latest by 8 am in the morning at their respective bus stands and appealed to all parents/guardians to ensure that their wards are present at the stipulated time to avoid boarding a single bus for their transportation for their own convenience, the vehicles operators and other passengers.
