24 hour Irabanta bandh affects Imphal Ukhrul Road

IMPHAL, June 26: Vehicular traffic along the Imphal-Ukhrul road was greatly affected by a 24 hour bandh called by the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the alleged abduction of Irabanta who remains missing till date since May 27, 2012.

Both passenger services and private vehicles stayed off the road and most shops along the route remained closed during the 24 hour bandh.

Since early morning, womenfolk and locals of Nongdum Napet and Yourbung under Lamlai police station came out to the streets and disrupted vehicular movement along the road.

Supporters also burned tyres on the road and place several objects to block the road, however there has been no reports of any untoward incident during the 24 hour bandh except for the police firing some tear gas shells at around 10:30am at Yourbung and Nongdum areas to disperse the supporters.

It may be mention that Irungbam Irabanta (38), son of Kerani of Nongdum Maning Leikai went missing after he left his rented house at JNIMS gate number 3 on May 27 2012 driving his Maruti Gypsy at around 9 am.
