UP Lokayukta recommends prosecution of 19 persons


Lucknow, May 21: Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta recommends prosecution of 19 persons including two former ministers of Mayawati government.

The case relates to alleged siphoning of funds for construction of memorials, parks and statues.

Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta N K Mehrotra today recommended prosecution of 19 persons, including two former ministers Nasimuddin Siddique and Babu Singh Kushawaha of the Mayawati government and some senior officials for siphoning off public funds to the tune of more than one thousand four hundred crores Rupees in the construction of memorials, parks and statues in Lucknow and Noida.

However, the Lokayukta said no direct evidence has been found against former chief minister Mayawati.

The state government had entrusted the Lokayukta with the probe on July 10, 2012.

Justice N K Mehrotra submitted his findings along with the probe report by the Economic Offences Wing of the UP police to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Justice Mehrotra told mediapersons in Lucknow that altogether one hundred nintey nine people were found involved in the scam.

He has recommended recovery of the siphoned off funds from the accused including 30 per cent each from the two former ministers.
