Stones bought by missing Irabanta stolen and sold at Maphou Dam


IMPHAL, May 10: Stones bought by Irungbam Irabanta Singh to be supplied for the construction of Maphou Dam have been reportedly stolen by unidentified persons and sold at Maphou Dam. It may be mentioned that Irabanta has remained untraceable till date after he went out of his house on May 27, 2012 in the morning and allegedly taken captive by NSCN-IM.

Modhubala Devi wife of Irungbam Irabanta Singh disclosed to IFP that her husband had bought stones in two gorges of hills located at Itham Moirangpurel with one stone gorge costing Rs 70,000. The stones were to be supplied for the construction work of Maphou Dam. However some men stole and sold them by taking out the stones from the gorges at Maphou Dam taking advantage of her husband going missing.

Modhubala continued that as she was living at Porompat, she could not receive information immediately but upon verification at the spot, she found that the stones at the quarry spot were indeed missing. She added that she has lodged a complaint at Lamlai police station following which, she has been assured that those responsible will be produced within May 14.
