Satyabhama case charge sheet to be framed after report on post-mortem samples

IMPHAL, April 30: The samples of the post-mortem examination of the dead body of Ningombam Satyabama Devi (31), daughter of N. Tomba Singh of Kakwa Selungba Leikai a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) of DBT project at Pathology Department of RIMS has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Pangei. Mention may be made that Satyabhama was found dead after being murdered and abandoned at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon under Irilbung Police Station of Imphal East on April 5.

The post mortem examination was conducted at the mortuary of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on April 6. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) instituted for the case sent the samples taken during the post-mortem examination to the forensic science laboratory, Pangei for further examinations.

According to a source, the samples were officially sent by the SIT led by Rajen, Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) of Imphal East District Police include vaginal swab and urethral swab of the deceased. The examination of the samples is in the full swing following their arrival at FSL, Pangei.

The source further said that viscera taken during the post mortem examination of the dead body of the deceased is being preserved and may be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata to be examined further. It may be mentioned that Irilbung PS registered a case FIR No. 24 (4)2013 IBG PS V/S 302/34 IPC on the day the dead body of Satyabhama was found.

Of the three accused who are in Judicial custody in connection with the case, two were arrested by the Police on April 8 while the third accused surrendered to the police on April 9. The dead body of the deceased N. Satyabhama Devi was collected by JAC and the family on April 12 and her last rite performed. The public is now waiting for the charge sheet in the case to be submitted by the police to the court.
