Progressive farming methods introduced to Chandel farmers


IMPHAL, February 11, 2013: Chandel District Agriculture Officer Kh Jugeshor led a team to Chandel during a field exposure visit for farmers.

Kh Jugeshor, who is also the project Director of the Agriculture Technology Management Agency led around 50 farmers of several blocks including Machi, Chakpikarong, Khengjoi, Tengnoupal and Chandel and visited Lousipat at Kakching, M/S Sunita Agri cum horticulture Farm at Wabagai; M/s S Tomba and Sons Integrated Fish Farming Private Limited and the Central Agricultural University.

The Chandel farmers were introduced to how their counterparts in the valley districts are farming and breeding animals to earn their livelihood. The AO said the farmers of the hill districts lack scientific knowledge and as such they toil harder but could not raise much profit.

He continued that the visit was organized so that the farmers of the hills could witness the progressive farmers of the valley counterparts and incorporate their modern farming methods into their old conventional methods to earn more.

One of the participants said that there a vast difference in the ways of farming between the farmers of the hills and the valley and now after witnessing the valley methods, now they can incorporate it to their style which could be a lot more beneficial.
