Hanging of Afzal Guru was not a political decision: Shinde

New Delhi, February 11, 2013: Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has reiterated government's stand that all legal precedures were completed before execution of Afzal Guru, the prime convict of Parliament attack.
Addressing media in New Delhi, Shinde denied the allegation that the decision to hang Guru was political.
He also said that the case of the killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh was still pending courts.
Shinde also clarified that the family members of Afzal Guru were sent a letter on February 7th itself and hanging took place on 9th February.
