Joint Committee withdraws proposed indefinite blockade

TET Blockade called off
IMPHAL, October 17: The proposed indefinite blockade of the Joint Committee Hill District Students Organisation has been called off following a dialogue between the state Education Minister and representatives of the student body.

The meeting was held at the office chamber of the Minister this afternoon.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the Minister announced that the concensus was brought after his assurance to provide TET examination centres at all District headquarters from next year.

He further announced that another TET examination will be conducted before March 31 so as to provide a chance to the candidates who missed out on this year’s exam.

The Minister further said that this year’s examination has been postponed to November 18.

Meanwhile, the Minister further elaborated that from next year there will be certain criteria to be fulfilled by aspiring TET candidates.

He elaborated that aspiring candidates of TET (Primary Schools) should have two years diploma in Elementary Education while those aspiring for the TET (Upper Primary Schools) should posses B Ed certificate with one year experience for both.

The government team which participated the meeting included Education Minister M Oken, MLA Z Kikhoubou Newmai, MLA Preshow Shimray and MLA Alexander Pao, and Principal Secretary Education Suresh Babu.

Meanwhile, the Minister also informed that altogether 59065 candidates have submitted their applications.
