‎5-year-old abducted, raped in Jind

ROHTAK, October 15: In a barbaric incident, a five-year-old girl was abducted and allegedly raped by an unidentified youth from near Ramlila ground, located in Roopnagar colony of Jind town on Sunday night. The girl was recovered from near Devi Lal Chowk three hours after the incident in a semi-conscious condition.

The girl's family alleged that police initially tried to put the matter under wraps and kept on delaying the medical examination of the victim and registration of a case into the incident. Police however maintained that a case of abduction had been registered and they were awaiting the medical examination report for verifying whether she had been sexually assaulted.

The uncle of the victim said that they started a search for the girl as she went missing from near their house in the locality and immediately informed police. The locality people recovered the girl from near Devi Lal Chowk and took her to the civil hospital, but since no doctor was found present, they took her to a private hospital for medical examination.

He alleged that doctors at the private hospital did not disclose the medial report and asked them to take the girl home. "But the girl's condition deteriorated at night and she was again admitted to the private hospital on Monday morning where a doctor confirmed that the girl has been raped", he said, alleging that police had been trying to hush up the case by influencing the doctors to give a negative report about rape.

The uncle alleged that the girl had told family members that three persons had abducted her, who were carrying a bottle with them. The girl's mother had spotted bruises and injury marks on the girl, he said. However, under pressure from the family and local people, police took the girl to civil hospital where a board of doctors conducted a medical examination of the victim.

When contacted, DSP, city, Amrik Singh, said that police had registered a case of abduction but the sections of rape had not been added in the FIR. "We are awaiting the medical report and further action would be taken on the basis of the report. Police have started a hunt for the accused person," he said. The DSP was however unable to reveal whether there were more than one person involved in the abduction. SSP Jind, Saurabh Singh, did repond to repeated calls to his mobile.
