Woman dies, others hospitalised after consuming cakes past expiry date

IMPHAL, October 3 : A 54-year-old woman has reportedly died and five others taken ill after eating cakes which were beyond their expiry dates at Sekmai in Manipur’s Imphal West district.
Thangjam Bila, a resident of Khaman Mayai Leikai succumbed at Shija hospital here in the morning after undergoing treatment for two days. The incident occurred on October 1 when the six persons ate thrown-out cakes on the foot of Oxu hill.
The six all labourers hailing from Khaman Mayai Leikai and Khaman Awang Leikai. They were working on the hill for Joint Forest Management Committee when they found the expired cakes.
Immediately after consuming the cakes, they started vomiting and suffering from diarrhea and high fever. They were seriously ill due to the apparent food poisoning and later rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
However, Bila was later referred to Shija hospital as her condition was deteriorating. She died in the private hospital after two days.
