Submit counter affidavit: HC asks state govt

IMPHAL, October 23: The High Court of Manipur, while directing the state government to keep an order reverting promotion of four MPS police officers in abeyance, served a notice to the government to submit a counter affidavit in response to a petition challenging the reverting order within a week.

Four police officers of Manipur Police after being promoted to the rank of MPS grade-II, was reverted to their lower post with effect from March 1, 2007 by an order released by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on October 18, 2013.

The reverting order released by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, consequent upon the recommendation to review a previous DPC meeting held on January 12, 2007 with regards to the vacancy for the year 2006-07 and also in compliance of contempt case (No. 62 2010), dated May, 5, 2013, issued by the High Court.

After the review under the rule 5 of the Manipur Police Services Rules, 1965, an amendment was made and promoted 40 police officers including Inspectors of Police/subedars/subedar majors of Manipur Police were promoted to Manipur Police Service Grade-II with effect from March, 1, 2007.
