NIA arrests Wangoi ex-MLA on UG link up charges

IMPHAL, October 4: Salam Joy, a former MLA of the 22-Wangoi Assembly Constituency has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for having nexus with a faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party.
Ex-MLA Salam Joy (44), son of (L) S Das Singh of Samurou Awang was elected to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly as a NCP candidate.
According to highly reliable sources, the NIA based at Guwahati summoned the MLA through the concerned police authorities to appear before them. Salam Joy then reached Guwahati on October 2.
The following day, he went to the NIA special court and was formally arrested later by the concerned authorities at around 2 pm, it said.
The case registered against him was filed beforehand and bore NIA case number RC-03/2011/NIA/GHY.
The same day i.e. on October 3, he was produced before the Special Court of NIA and further remanded into their custody till October 9, 2013. In connection with his arrest, and post the NIA intimating the State police, the SP of Imphal West has notified the Wangoi PS authority that information be provided to S Joy’s family regarding his arrest.
