Meeting demands arable land protection

IMPHAL, Oct 7: Representatives of 32 local clubs, developmental boards and meira paibis of Laipham Khunou to Awang Sekmai yesterday convened a joint meeting at the Koirengei Uram Leikai community on the diminishing arable land in the locality, informed a press release of the Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organization.
The meeting, presided over by Khumanthem Jilla unanimously resolved that any activities unrelated to agriculture should not be allowed in the agricultural area, it said.
The meeting further resolved to submit an ultimatum to the Manipur government to formulate a Land Use Policy at the soonest, adding that the rice stock in connection with the Food Security Act should be purchased from the farmers of Manipur, it said.
