Phungzathang Tonsing assures CCpur hospital upgradation to hill medical college

IMPHAL, September 10: State Health minister, Phungzathang Tonsing has assured to upgrade the Churachandpur district hospital to Hill Medical College, during an official inspection tour of the several medical institutes including CHC and PHC, situated along the Tiddim road on Tuesday.

The possibilities of upgrading a medical institute to medical college came into effect in view of the new guidelines of MCI, said the minister.

The new guideline has provisions for medical institute to be upgraded to medical college, if it meets necessary infrastructure and has an area of 10 acres against the earlier guideline of having 25 acres of land, he informed.

As a part of the tour, an informal gathering was also held at Churachandpur District Hospital wherein the Minister interacted with doctors and medical staffs.

Speaking to media persons during the tour, the Health minister informed that the Medical Council of India has approved 10 more MBBS seats for Manipur at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

While mitigating on the issue of over-crowded district hospitals of Churachandpur despite being upgraded to 100 bedded, the minister assured to soon hand over the two new building blocks of the district hospital which is under construction.

In the wake of reports of stealing of equipments from the district hospital, the minister appealed to avoid such incidents in the future as the infrastructure installed are meant for the public.

During his inspection, the Minister also covered the Nambol Community Health Centre, Ningthoukhong Primary Health Centre, Bishnupur district Hospital which is under construction, CHC Moirang, Kwakta Primary Health Centre. He expressed his disappointment over the poor condition of the yet to be inaugurated Moirang CHC that was constructed by DRDA under the funding of NRHM and said necessary action will be taken up against the concerned department.

Moreover he also assured to seriously look into the matter of meeting shortcomings being faced by many medical institutes.

During the tour, the Minister was accompanied by fellow legislators including Commerce and Industry minister, Govindas Konthoujam; Parliamentary Secretary YAS, M Prithiviraj; Parliamentary Secretary Horti and Soil Conservation, Vungjagin Valte; Nambol MLA.

Top state officials including DC, Jacintha Lazarus; Principal Secretary Health, Shohal Akhtar; Director Family Welfare, O Ibomcha, Director, Health Service, A Bijoy, also attended the tour.
