PCI team in state

IMPHAL, Sept 24: A sub-committee comprising of six members of the Press Council of India (PCI), arrived in Imphal today on a two day visit as part of taking stoke of the perils that journalists face in the country.
The team led by the Convenor of the sub-committee, Kosuri Amarnath, was received at the Tulihal airport by members of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) including its president W Shyamjai.
The PCI had earlier constituted a 10 member sub-committee in its meeting convened on September 19, in the wake of growing threats to journalists across the country. The objective of the committee was to examine the matter in depth under its mandate by the Parliament to preserve the freedom of the press. The committee has been meeting authorities and media persons in different parts of the country including the north-eastern state. The delegation had already visited Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura on the same purpose and has informed that it would tour more states in North East.
The team will interact with the journalists of the state tomorrow at Hotel Classic. On September 26, the team will meet the Principal Secretary of Home, Dr J Suresh Babu; Director General of Manipur, MK Das; Commissioner IPR and Director IPR.
