Nemcha voices women empowerment call during Teej celebration

KANGPOKPI, September 8: “Empowering women and strengthening women's participation in decision making and leadership at both national and local level, is at the heart of sustainable socio-economic development", said MSCP MLA from 50-Kangpokpi AC Nemcha Kipgen on the occasion of Teej at Kalapahar Sadar Hills yeaterday.
Teej is a traditional fasting festival celebrated by Nepali women for the long life of her husband as well as long and firm relationship between them until death. It is observed for marital happiness, well-being of spouse and children besides purification of own body and soul.
Teej festival celebration at Kalapahar was organized by Mahila Mandal Kalapahar (Women Society Kalapahar) where MLA Nemcha Kipgen graced the occasion as chief guest while Dilip Katwal, special contractor; RB Chapagain, president Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union; Devi Prasad Upriti, president Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh Manipur Branch; Paominlen Kipgen, MDC Kalapahar DCC; Ribu Raj Bhujel, Pradhan Kalapahar and Gokul Pokhrel, ex-Pradhan Toribari attended the function as guests of honour.
A world tourist from Nepal Narayan Bhattarai and Navaraj Bhattarai also attended the auspicious occasion.
Thousands of Nepali women, young and old from different places, all dress up in red colour clothes considered auspicious for women observing Teej participated in the festival.
While emphasizing the significance of women empowerment on the occasion, MLA Nemcha Kipgen said that educational attainment and economic participation are the key constituents in ensuring empowerment of women while adding that women leader have vital role to play in developing innovative approaches and solution to the new development challenges that our society will be facing.
While encouraging the women of Sadar Hills in particular and the state in general to take part in decision-making and in growing ranges of field to create a better society, the MLA averred that, in the political field, reservation for women is a significant step forward towards their political empowerment.
MLA Nemcha Kipgen also informed the women participants that National Food Security Ordinances have already been passed. Therefore women should take the initiative for the successful implementation of the programme.
She further said that, Kalapahar to Chandraman road has already been approved and the work will start in no time. One common toilet at Kalapahar parking will constructed and the marketing shed will be upgraded as well as black topping will done around the marketing shed, she said.
In the meantime, the MLA inspected the newly constructed Kalapahar Public Health Centre and urged the concerned authority to inaugurate it at the earliest possibility in public interest.
