District ASHA Convention held at Thoubal

IMPHAL, September 28: The District Health Society, Thoubal and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal jointly organized a District ASHA Convention, 2013 for workers of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) today at the counting hall of DC Office, Thoubal with T Ranjit, Deputy Commissioner Thoubal who is also the Chairman of District Health Society, Thoubal attending as chief guest.
The programme was also attended by Dr K Rajo, Addl DirectorFamily Welfare Services, Manipur/SNO (ASHA) as president; Dr Kh Radheshyam, Director District Health Society, Thoubal/CMO Thoubal; Dr N Jyentakumar, Member Secy/DFWO and W Imo, community mobilizer RRC N/E, Manipur as guests of honour.
Delivering key note address, H Rishikesh, DPM District Health Society, Thoubal stated that the convention was held to address various issues being faced by workers of ASHA, ways to solve it, workers’ incentives and other welfare programmes where the government could taken up to enhance the workforce of ASHA’s workers.
T Ranjit said ASHA has been the backbone of NRHM adding that the role of ASHA’s workers and its facilitators are of paramount importance in ensuring safety child birth while Dr Kh Radheshyam informed that there are around 365 workers and 18 facilitators of ASHA in Thoubal.
In the technical session of the convention chaired by W Imo, Dr H Shukhdeba, asst prof IGNTU, Manipur of Social Work Dept spoke on ‘’Volunteerism makes the differences’’ while Harris Chongtham, state ASHA programme manager/SHS Manipur deliberated on ‘’The roles and responsibilities of ASHAs’’.
Later, along with organizing various programmes like group discussion and ASHA quiz and staging of a short play acted by workers of ASHA, gifts were also presented to 17 selected ASHA workers of Thoubal district for excellence in their work.
