Another waterfall found along the Tamenglong-Churachandpur border

JIRIBAM, September 15: After the All Jiribam Working Journalists Union explored two waterfalls and brought them to the notice of  the public at the adjoining border area of Tamenglong and Churachandpur District recently, another waterfall was found near to the place where the two waterfalls are located by a team of around 40 students of the Geography Dept of Jiribam Govt Higher Secondary School guided by teacher M Romeo Singh while the team went to the place for a plane tape survey.

The survey was conducted to measure the length, width and distance between the waterfalls.

A team of the All Jiribam Working Journalists’ Union had already made public the first two waterfalls at a place about 2 km east of Pangkhotphai village under Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong District from the Churachandpur side located at the border area of Vangai Range and Doltang villages.

Following it, the team of Jiribam Govt Higher Secondary School went to the place in a plane tape survey.

The team first came upon the first waterfall which is 200 feet in breadth and 20 feet tall after a walk of 700 feet from the main road. The second one was located after climbing uphill about 100 feet on the right side of the first waterfall and 465 feet away from it measuring 10 feet in breadth and 23 feet in height.

The third waterfall could be found after climbing another 20 feet uphill on the right side of the second waterfall around 500 feet away from it.

Being at the highest point, the third waterfall is 70 feet tall and 15 feet in breadth.

During the survey, it was found that the third waterfall comes under the Step Waterfall category where 1st and 3rd plunge pool (pool formed by waterfall) are clearly visible. The rocks which are part of the waterfall were found to be hard ones.

According to the chief of Pangkotphai Deh Chongloi, the villagers came to know about the waterfall 80/90 years ago and is known as ‘’Khoikolva’’ (Bee’s Stream) to villagers of the village.

The chief said even though the waterfall is situated at the border area of Doltang village in Churachandpur District, an official claim has been not come so far.

In coming across the third waterfall, M Romeo stated that the waterfall belongs to the people of the state and the government should take up necessary measures to maintain its beauty as it is rarely found in other parts of the world that three waterfalls being situated in a same place so the concerned authority should demarcate the exact location of it.

It may be mentioned that the All Jiribam Working Journalists’ Union (AJWJU) had wanted to name the waterfalls as “Machin-Moupa Eshing Chaibi’’ (Brother-Sister Waterfall) or "Lady Water Fall".
