Trade unions to organize rallies in state capitals on Sep 25

IMPHAL, August 18: The Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur will be organising rallies/demonstration in the state capital on September 25. This was stated by the Union’s chairman Laishram Sotinkumar during a press meet at Irabot Bhawan today.
He further said that the National convention of workers held at Mavlankar Hall at New Delhi on August 6, 2013 has unanimously adopted to organize demonstration/rallies at all state capitals with respective state-wide mobilization on September 25, 2013.
It was also resolved to organized massive demonstration before the Parliament with main mobilization from neighbouring states on December 12, 2013, he said.
Further, on the same day of the demonstration before the Parliament, district level demonstrations will be organized at all district headquarters all over the country, he said.
He said that the National convention of Workers expresses serious concern and anguish over continuing indifference and inaction by the Government of India towards vital livelihood related demands presented before the government by the all in united platform of trade unions and pursued through numerous agitations/programmes including strikes during the last three years.
On the other hand the Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur had also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Sigh through MP T Meinya and MP Tapan Sen on August 12, 2013, the chairman said.
He said the demands include: “Permanent highway protection force on the National Highways in the state to protect vehicles, motor workers owners and general public.”
“Completion of National Highway 37 construction within the shortest possible time and instruct the BRO (BRTF) to complete construction of Road and Bridge on National Highway 37 or use Military Engineering Department under the Ministry of Defence for the completion of this National Highway,” he added.
