Thoubal College’s golden jubilee concludes, CM calls for contribution towards society

IMPHAL, August 8: ‘’Sacrificing oneself for the society is indispensable and priceless. If one is born as a human being, he should contibute something for the betterment and development of the society and country. Subsequently, this will in turn help in developing and nurturing a society and country’’

This was stated by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh while attending as chief guest of a seven-days long ‘’Thoubal College’s Golden Jubilee’’ Celebration organised by Thoubal College Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee which ended today.

O Ibobi further said that advantages which the present generation is getting are the results of hard works putted by one’s demised forefather and great ones long time back adding that thier valuable contributions are priceless and that had they did not taken up responsibilities, the present society should have been faced another story.

The present generation should not forget them in their lifetime. Mahatma Gandhi, who had sacrificed for the nation is still remembered by people all over the world, he noted.

The chief minister asserted that every single person in a society whether he is a politician, doctor, engineer, police, teacher or student should contribute to their best level towards the society so that peace and tranquility prevails in the country adding that one must set a perfect example for the generation to come.

Elaborating on developmental works taken up by the government, the chief minister said Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway line is set to be completed before 2017 informing that as parts of Government of India’s Look East Policy, the railway line after reaching Imphal would be further connected up to Myanmar.

The Imphal Airport is also slated to become an International Airport soon. By acquiring 600 acres of land for the expansion of the airport, Manipur has become first of its kind in the history of Airport Authority of India and for this the authority had lauded the effort putted by the State Government. After some years through the Imphal Airport, countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Japan would be connected with the State which is good sign for bringing growth and development in the State, he affirmed.

He went on to say that under the aegis of Asian Development Bank (ADB) works for expansion of Imphal-Moreh road would be started soon and for this certain amount of fund have been already sanctioned while adding that from the proposed business ties between India and Myanmar, Manipur would get an opportunity to get timber and coal abundantly.

While delevering speech as guest of honour, Higher and Technical Education Commissioner P Vaiphei IAS stated that the education department of the government is an important branch both for the people and goverment but sometimes unwarranted incidents do broke out in the department.

It is unfortunate to notice that students altering from their studies have been interfering in policy making thereby causing chaos and havoc in education system. In order to solve the problem of shortage of teachers in the State, the government has been trying to formulate a systematic transfer policy looking after students, he noted.

As a part of the programme, the chief minister unveiled the jubilee oblisk along with offering floral tributes to demised founders of the college.

While inaugurating and handing over an indoor stadium built at an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakhs which was sponsored by UGC, the chief minister as a mark of respect presented gifts to first two teachers of the Thoubal College.

O Ibobi also released a souvenir of the college along with a book titled ‘’Thoubal College’’ written by Retd Lecturer M Rajendro.

Today’s programme presided by MI and DIPR Parliamentary Secretary K Meghachandra was also attended by MLAs K Ranjit and P Brojen.
