Sana Konung protest continues

IMPHAL, August 8: The protest against the State Cabinet’s decision on taking over the Sana Konung completed 47 days today.

The members of Kanglei Imma Lup; Khurai Athouba Meira Paibi; Khurai Thangjam Leikai Meira Paibi; Union of Social Upliftment; International Peace and Social Advancement; Kanglamei; Chanura Lamjinglam Kangleipak; Khrishnachandra Thougal Lup, Kakching took part in the sit-in-protest at Sana Konung today.

Speaking to media persons, Advisor Khurai Athouba Meira Paibi, Thoudam Binashakhi said that instead of taking the decision to take over Sana Konung, the State Government can develop the Sana Konung to make it more elegant which the public will appreciate.

Meanwhile, he said the decision to evict titular King from his own Palace and convert the living palace into a museum is quite condemnable.

She further urged the government to withdraw its decision at the earliest.

Khrishnachandra Thougal Lup, president, Nongmaithem Narjit said the government decision should be withdrawn.

He further said that the decision to take over Sana Konung is against the public of the state and cannot remain as a spectator and it is against democracy.

Addressing the protest, Leirik Leima, Kanglamei said that the Sana Konung is the identity of the state. There are lots of rituals and rites of the State performed with the presence of titular King.

The Sana Konung must preserve and the titular King should not shift his residency, she said, and added that the decision of the State Government to take over Sana Konung and drive away the King from the Palace is very unfortunate.

She further appealed to all the public to support in the movement launched by Sana Konung Semgat Sagat Lup to save Sana Konung.
