No sign of govt in the entire village lament Lamtai Khunou villagers

JIRIBAM, August 28: The villagers of Lamtai Khunou of Jiribam sub division are facing a lot of hardships.
N Kuljit Singh, general secretary of the local club, Lamtai Khunou Youth Club told media persons that the villagers are leading a miserable life owing to negligence for a prolonged period by the Govt of Manipur.
The secretary said that the village has failed to get PDS items and other government entitlements.
This makes the daily bread earning people to lead a miserable life, he said.
He continued that the Lamtai village has been coexisting with Bengali Hindu, Bengali Muslim, Hmar, Paite, Kuki, Bishnupriya etc.
He continued that the villagers also have to ward off non-locals trying to encroach upon the village land.
He said the village has no primary school and as such, the children are sent to nearby Bengali medium schools.
Kuljit continued that even though the villagers used to manage a primary school on their own, however, owing to government negligence and apathy the school failed to attract much students.
He continued even though several sources have informed that the school has been taken over by the government, no officials of the government have ever visited the school.
And the villagers will stop sending their children to the Bengali medium school so that they could learn in Manipuri medium schools, he said.
He also appealed to the Govt of Manipur to extend support for its further survival.
The secretary continued that the Community Hall of the village is still to be completed and lamented that there are no signs of any government agency’s presence in the entire village.
Regarding grievances of the people, Moirangthem Rashe Chanu, general secretary of the Lamtai Khunou meira paibi lup said that job card works under MGNREGS were being handed out in a disorganized manner which needs intervention by the concerned authority.
She further said that the government of Manipur as well as local MLA should work to create earning avenue for the women of the village so as to develop their livelihood.
